Lanes Cove, circa 1890

Lanes Cove, on the northern coast of Gloucester (MA) Island, was port and loading area for several large nearby granite companies, and is still anchorage for local fisherman. The shacks in the background were for fishing gear. The man in the foreground is holding a line while waiting for the next granite schooner to come in. © Fredrik D. Bodin
