Poles Hill, circa 1890

A ship's mast was erected atop this hill as a navigational aid, and it was called Poles Hill. Beneath the hill is Doc Babson's farm. Poles Hill, with its sweeping panoramas of Cape Ann and abundant blueberries, is now embroiled in a housing development controversy. © Fredrik D. Bodin
