Battleship USS Maine, circa 1899
The first USS Maine was sunk in Havanna Harbor in 1898. This is the second Maine, which was part of the Teddy Roosevelt's Great White Fleet. The long objects coming out from her sides aren't guns, they're boat booms, used for keeping the launches from being crushed by the battleship. © Fredrik D. Bodin
